A-LIST SA PRESENTS ART & MUSIC JUNE 2020:

This "Billboard Charting" artist moved to Texas in order to further her music career with multi-platinum producers. One of them has been a contributing editor for SA Monthly and we have yet to make his formal introduction. Discover the sounds of this rising star, Elexis Ansley, in the special "Fitness Edition" of SA Monthly (where we featured her choice in work-out and cool-down music for your workouts!)

Below is a shrine, created by local artist, Regina Moya, dedicated to San Antonio's Emma Tenayuca.

Who is she?

Flashback to San Antonio in the 1930's...

Emma was alive during the Depression-era when cheap laborers could easily be exploited due to the high unemployment rates and people in need of work. She was an outspoken Mexican-American girl from a large Mexican-Chicano family. Emma was proactive in protesting for fair wages for the exploited workers. Her most famous protest was a strike she organized at the Pecan Shelling Company (that paid workers one cent per pound of shelled pecans.) Her protest resulted in raised wages (twenty five cents an hour.)

Her activist efforts have made her a part of San Antonio history.

Are you a dancer in San Antonio? Good news, SA Monthly recognizes a need to shine a spotlight on developing talent within our community. Meet Jackleen Rios, owner of "The Jewel of Art" Dance Studio. She is not only a member of the dance community of San Antonio, she is a leader. Frequently participating in music video projects or creating her own "Fiesta" event dedicated to live dance performances with vendor booths for food and refreshments, or even choreographing a dance to honor actor Patrick Swayze (San Antonio Film Festival). Jackleen in someone to follow! We selected her as our "Dancer of the Month" Curator and Account Executive so that she can help select the best dance talent to highlight in the magazine.

Did you like this month's cover? Maybe it was the "Charlie's Angels" look? Or maybe...

It was the photography.

In this special "Fitness Edition" of SA Monthly you will find the bio of a women once named "Best Fitness Photographer in the World" Sarah Lyons. Sarah doesn't live in San Antonio, but she visits often, and when she does, she can take photos by appointment only. Find out more about her rates and how to book a session with her by contacting her or sending a message to the magazine. Depending on popularity, we can bring her SA to capture photos for the next "Fitness Edition."

Boxing in San Antonio Featuring Jesse James Leija

Boxing is one of the most popular combat sports in the world...and it can become your favorite workout routine. Unlike a normal workout at the gym, it teaches self-defense moves while helping burn calories at the same time. On top of that, it provides a full-body workout that can take off 3-4 pounds a workout (depending on the intensity level) which is much more than a regular gym workout. Boxing is a good way to keep toned while also keeping your mind engaged with moves that build your reflexes (sparring and the boxing bag will help with this.) The self-defense aspect of boxing helps build confidence, such as taking on a sport like karate. Learning how to defend against different attackers will help prepare you for any situation where you feel that you are under attack. Boxing will also make you stronger and more durable through medicine ball throwing, pull ups, push ups, and ab workouts. Another benefit of boxing is coordination. The nature of the sport forces you to become awar...

FAQ: How to Become Socialite of the Year?

"Who is she?" Onlookers seem to wonder when she steps into a room. Her fashion sense is impeccable, or unusual, or there is just a certain something that no one can put their finger on...but it turns heads. The French call it "Je ne Sais Quoi" which literally translates to "I don't know what." This woman carries a quality that cannot be adequately described. In English this quality is called, "charisma." Each year S.A.Monthly looks out for this woman to announce our next Socialite of the Year. To be the next Socialite of the Year one has to be a community leader whose presence has made an impact. This person also has to have the attention of the whole community. Our Socialite of the Year Alumni have gone on to do great things, some ended up on television shows, or started a clothing line, or walked catwalks all over the world...who can you think of who deserves to be featured? Let us know! It is never too late to get noticed by SA Mo...
